Summary/Shrnutí

One last post about my Zakka experience. This was my first SAL. The Zakka Style is the only crafting book I have in English. I don't understand all the words in there and I've been lazy to look up some in dictionary. I understand most of it and the pictures gave me idea how the things should look like too :-) All of my projects started with recalculating. I'm not familiar with inches and some of the given numbers are kind of strange to me. I usually read through the instructions. I followed some of them and sometimes I didn't read them at all. There are few very simple projects you don't really need any. There were also few tricky ones but reading tips from others in the group helped. I tried some new techniques too. First time using/sewing/doing couple of things. It's hard to name all of it. It's been wonderful experience. I learned that the sewing community is so nice all over the world. I met few lovely ladies and became follower or their blogs. I would like to thank Lindsey for great organizing. Also thank those many bloggers who inspired us each Monday. Some of them did a great job and gave it little twist, others only followed the book. With my negligent attitude I don't really mind all of those errors in the book. I haven't found some of them at all. I only read about it. At the beginning I didn't think I'll make all of the projects but it was little challenge and great prices were super motivation. Who wouldn't like some sewing goodies? Well Mr. Random doesn't like my numbers so I haven't won any but you can't have it all. I'm glad I tried all of them even though I don't have a use for some.
As a reward I have received couple of lovely comments which made my day. I’m also thrilled some people marked my pictures as favorite. Thank you!

Tak ještě shrnutí celého Zakka projektu. Byla to moje první zkušenost co se týče společného šití v mezinárodním měřítku. Oceňuju hlavně skvělou organizaci, skvělé ceny jako motivaci a milou šicí společnost. Každé pondělí byla přichystaná inspirace od někoho jiného, takže za tu dobu jsem prošla spoustu skvělých blogů. Vyzkoušela jsem si různé techniky a drobné šicí projekty, které jsem měla v plánu. Ne všemu v knížce rozumím, někdy se mi nechtělo hledat ve slovníku, tak jsem si to prostě ušila po svém. V knize je poměrně dost chyb, ale tím, že jsem nepostupovala vždy přesně podle instrukcí jsem na některé ani nepřišla. Zaujalo mě i pár účastnic celé akce, takže jejich blogy teď pravidelně sleduju. Bez této akce bych zcela jistě neušila všech 24 projektů. Pár jsem jich šila na poslední chvíli v neděli a je to na nich znát. Nemůžu říct, že by mě všechny projekty nadchly, vím, že některé už nikdy šít nebudu, ale jsem ráda, že jsem to zkusila. Celkově to byla velice pozitivní zkušenost a ráda se něčeho podobného zase zúčastním.

Guess what are my three favorite projects? Those that we use almost every day. The little quilt which we have in the stroller. The pillowcase with teddy bear which ended up in my daughters' bed and house pouches. What are yours?

Hádejte, který tři jsou moje nejoblíbenější? Ty co nejvíc používáme. Malá deka do kočárku. Polštářek s kapsou na medvídka a nesmím zapomenout na domečkové taštičky, který jsou nejen hezký, ale i praktický.

And what's next? We'll see. There is always something around the blogland.

A co dál? Na netu je toho pořád spousta, tak uvidíme co mi čas a možnosti dovolí.

Krabička/Box wk24

Tak je tu konec. Poslední projekt z knížky Zakka Style. Měla to být souprava tří, ale jeden mi zatím stačí. Je z velké části šitý ručně a do dalších se mi zatím nechce. Použila jsem zbytečky co jsem dostala tuto středu od kamarádky. Díky Mončo, skvěle se mi hodily! Nepoužila jsem žádnou extra výztuhu, tak to nemá dokonalý tvar, ale to mi nevadí. Chtěla jsem to prostě zkusit.

This post is part of Zakka Sew Along. Here it is. The end of our journey with Zakka Style. Lot of hand stitching at the end but it turns into lovely little box. This Wednesday my friend gave me some of her scraps. They happened to be just perfect for something called nesting box. Instead of leaf appliqué I have cute nest to which I added some hand stitching. As usual I didn't follow the instructions all the way. I made 4 square as the side panels based on the size of my scraps and then the bottom. I sewed just three sides, leaving one open. Inserted the batting in and quilted. When my side panels were sewed together I added the batting and run down the embroidery machine stitch + I hand stitched the nest. Before I sewed the backing on as instructed I added the bottom to one of those side squares. That way I only hand stitched 3 sides of bottom while assembling. Once my box was assembled I added the binding at the very end. I like it but I'm not sure if I'll be doing another one with this technique. I just wanted to give it a try and see how it goes.

Jdeme do finále/Zakka wk22-23

Tak už jdeme do finále vážení ... Už zbývá jen jeden jediný projekt v rámci Zakka Sew Along. Na tento týden to měla být malá nástěnka z vyšívacího rámečku, ale ten jsem neměla. Místo toho se mi tu povaloval obyčejný prázdný rámeček, tak jsem využila ten. Vlaječky jsou dost malé, nastříhala jsem je ze zažehlovacích záplat, takže odpadlo podžehlování oboustranným vlizelínem.

This post is part of Zakka Sew Along. There is only one more to go. I was looking for some alternative as I didn't have suggested embroidery hoop. I found this empty frame and made this not so happy garland out of it. When I'm not sure which fabrics to use I use the ones which are on top. I have used the black & white combination for the Frame and the linen with B&W print for the Pleated Coin Purse. As the flags are so little I cut them out of iron on patches so it was easy to sew them on.

Když nevím jaké látky vybrat, vezmu ty co mám zrovna po ruce, většinou tedy ty z předcházejících projektů . Není to sice veselé jako varianta v knížce, ale to nevadí. Minulý týden jsem si vyzkoušela pouzdro s rámečkem.

I haven't shared the Coin Purse yet, so here it is. I had to adjust the pattern to fit the frame and I'm not really happy with the result. It's a bit uneven.

Origami

Včera nám začala škola. Z MiniMe je prvňáček a já ji chtěla na batoh přidělat nějaký přívěsek, aby si ho poznala na první pohled. Tak vznikl origami motýl. Zkusila jsem to nejdřív z papíru a pak z látky. Nedala jsem tam žádnou výztuž, ale asi by to s ní bylo lepší. Ještě jsme spolu složily velkého papírového a pak už ten hala bala pokus letěl přímo na batoh. Návod jak na něj, najdete tady.

I have tried some origami butterflies. I used this tutorial. It's not perfect but MiniMe likes it and it went straight to her backpack. She's the school girl now.

Hexagon combo/Hotovo

I got all inspired by the tutorials of the Festival of Hexagons that I had to try some. It resulted in this combo. At first I wanted to try one of those hexstatic hexagons and it went well. Later on it became the central piece of the quilt. Than I liked the seaside chevron and I started thinking about actually making it. I made the chevron a bit wider and added some hand quilting. Also the look of the hexagon used for the pouch catch my eye. As I used some scraps I also made few little ones using the method shown in pixie hexie wallet. So thanks for all those lovely and helpful tutorials which encouraged me to finish my first regular size quilt. It was a bit rush but I'm glad that I finished on time and could join in. I kind of challenge myself with it. It was not easy as my stash is very little and I had hard time choosing some fabrics that would work together. Moje první deka je hotová. Začala jsem s ní po shlednutí pár návodů v rámci Šestiúhelníkového festivalu. Festival končí zítra a daný termín mi pomohl s tím, že jsem to celé dokončila. No kdybych to nestihla, tak se taky nic nestane, moje šance uspět je zcela mizivá. To mi ovšem nevadí. Já si zkusila zase něco nového. Poprvé jsem šila s kráčející patkou, vyzkoušela si ruční prošívání a další, takže já jsem spokojená.

Backing is simple. I used some fun midgets and polka dots. The binding is also polka dots. The final hand stitched binding was the best part. It's great feeling to finish something. I have tried couple new things while working on this quilt so it's already a success for me.
